To do this, you’ll need to remove the glass from the frame and, using your tape measure, measure the fabric to the backing of the frame. Ensure that you allow enough fabric to fold behind the backing so it can be glued or stapled into place.
Before securing your fabric into place, you should ensure that you have it positioned on the backing and that it’s straight and even. Once you are happy with the placement, you can secure one side down using your glue or stapler and flip it over to see if it’s still aligned. If it is, continue to secure all sides of the fabric to the board, ensuring that you pull slightly before securing it to prevent your fabric from being loose when finished.
If you have used glue, you will need to make sure that it is fully dried before replacing the backing into the frame otherwise, it may stick, and you might have trouble removing it in the future. Place your backing into the frame. Leaving the glass out allows the natural textures of the fabric to show, although you can put glass over the top if you prefer. Secure the backing into position, hang and viola! You’ve got yourself a framed piece of fabric artwork!
